Mount Kelly, set on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, combines academic excellence, an outstanding range of opportunities beyond the classroom and exceptional pastoral care. They are a fully co-educational School for children aged between 3 and 18 and offer day, flexi, weekly and full boarding. The School has high expectations and this encourages the pupils to believe in themselves, to be inquisitive, to be resilient and to show ambition both in and out of the classroom. The pupils feel happy and valued, which in turn gives them the confidence, social awareness and enthusiasm for life-long learning needed to succeed in a fast-changing world.
Respect for tradition and an openness to innovation are valued and the School encourages their pupils to work with, and learn from each other, whilst also showing moral courage to stand up for what they believe. The School are confident that they can challenge and develop all those at any age, stretching the ablest whilst supporting those who occasionally need a helping hand.
Mount Kelly offers a high standard of academic schooling demonstrated by excellent results in 2020.
GCSE – 50% of all grades awarded were 9-7, almost twice the national figure, and over 99% of all candidates were awarded 9-4. Almost 20% of Mount Kelly pupils scored 8 or 9 in 5 or more subjects.
A Level – 44% of papers were graded A*- A and 89% A*- C which are both well above the national average. Around 70% of our pupils gain places to their first choice of university.
The school has an internationally recognised coaching facility for swimming. They have recently built a new 50-metre swimming pool. The swimmers board and are taught alongside their contemporaries. This creates a culture in which the level of commitment and dedication required to excel are not considered out of the ordinary but are qualities to which everyone can aspire. The swimming programme has had alumni at the last six Olympic and Paralympic games.
Boarding at Mount Kelly
Mount Kelly has a strong boarding ethos, and they offer daily, weekly and full boarding from Year 3. Ask the boarders what they like most about boarding and they’ll say ‘being with friends’. The combination of camaraderie and support helps children build relationships that last a lifetime.
Mount Kelly want boarding to be a fabulous and fun experience for all the children in their care. They want them to feel at home, feel part of the school and feel a strong sense of belonging to a community that welcomes all. Cherished and listened to, our boarders are cared for in a family setting.
