With almost 300 boarders, Gresham’s School vibrant and supportive boarding community offers plenty of opportunity for fun.

The mix of day and boarding pupils in the houses is supported and appreciated by both groups and develops a sense of loyalty to both the school and their house.

Seven Houses, each with its own unique style and character, provide a warm and welcoming home-from-home environment. An ongoing House refurbishment programme ensures that Houses remain up-to-date, offering a fresh and spacious atmosphere for boarders.

Drama – We offer opportunities to perform and create abound from the earliest age, and experimentation is encouraged. There are ample opportunities for those interested in the technical aspects of theatre. Recent performances have included Sondheim’s Follies, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Les Miserables and an adaptation of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials novels. Music – We have 5 choirs and anyone playing an instrument is spoilt for choice when it comes to playing in a group. The Senior School has the following ensembles: Symphony Orchestra, String Orchestra, Concert Band, Brass Ensemble, Junior and Senior Jazz Bands, Big Band, Woodwind Quintet, Guitar Group, various Rock Bands, plus opportunities for chamber music. As with the choirs, all instrumental ensembles perform several concerts a term, both in and out of school.

There is considerable cross-over with the renowned Drama Department where many of the School’s best musicians and singers take part in the numerous musicals and plays which are put on every term. Sport – We encourage all students to become involved in many of the various sports we offer, and we benefit from an enviable reputation in hockey, rugby, cricket, netball and shooting. Our sporting facilities include floodlit astro-turf pitches, 25-metre indoor swimming pool, large sports hall, over 30 tennis courts, an indoor 8-lane shooting range, seven rugby pitches, netball and squash courts, weights and fitness room, an athletics track and a cross-country course. Other sports offered in one or all of our schools include badminton, cross-country, football, fencing, sailing, squash, swimming and tennis, along with other optional activities including aerobics, basketball, golf, horse-riding, mountain-biking, kick-boxing, street-dance, table-tennis and trampolining. Combined Cadet Force(CCF) – The CCF provides pupils with lots of opportunities to develop self-reliance, leadership, teamwork and discipline. They can join Royal Navy, Army or Royal Air Force sections which provide experiences as diverse as learning to fly, in addition to having the opportunity to fly in RAF aircraft alongside experienced RAF pilots, sailing, shooting, sports, music, survival skills, rock climbing, engineering projects, kayaking, first aid, navigation and challenges both intellectual and physical. Duke Edinburgh of Edinburgh – All members of our CCF Contingent are welcome to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. In addition to carrying out expeditions, participants pursue physical recreation, take on a hobby or skill and undertake a service activity, often contributing to the local community. Pupils also receive specialist instruction in outdoor pursuits such as map-reading, campcraft and navigation, with ample opportunity to put these skills into practise in real-life situations. Community Outreach – Students get opportunities to work on a variety of projects where they can make a positive impact to their local community, the environment and to developing countries.

The following projects are just some of the projects our students have been involved with: Working with local primary schools, the Norfolk Rivers Trust and local schools to investigate and monitor the species in the River Glaven.
