d’Overbroeck’s is a leading UK co-educational independent day and boarding school located near to the centre of Oxford. The school is well known for their encouraging and supportive approach as well as for excellent academic results and outstanding pastoral care. Teaching is in small classes so every student can be heard and can participate in lessons and ask questions.
As well as being experts in their subject areas, d’Overbroeck’s teachers excel in motivating and inspiring students. International students can join the school from aged 14 on our one and two year IGCSE programmes (pre A level and pre IB programmes). These provide an excellent social and academic transition to the UK. Students then stay at d’Overbroeck’s or go on to other leading schools in the UK.
d’Overbroeck’s Sixth Form is based in brand new facilities on the Banbury Road where they have around 280 students, the majority of whom are from the UK. The school have a brand new boarding house, with en-suite facilities, across the road. You can choose from over 35 A level subjects in any combination and all the traditional subjects are offered plus alternatives such as Business, Classics, Media, Computer Science, History of Art, Music Technology, PE, Philosophy, Photography and Sociology.
At d’Overbroeck’s they have a relatively informal environment where students can be themselves but with a strong focus on academic success and a very positive and encouraging approach with excellent teachers. It is a happy, vibrant environment where you can enjoy your study and your success. The aim is to prepare students fully for the next stage of their career and beyond in a way which is engaging, interesting and enjoyable. d’Overbroeck’s are described by The Good Schools Guide as “a place of energy and laughter, of single-minded determination among students to do the best they can”.
Boarding at d’Overbroeck’s
The School’s boarding houses are both co-educational and the boys and girls share a communal area where they can relax, study and enjoy each other’s company. In the social area, they can play board games, watch movies, form study groups and relax.
The accommodation is split into girls’ and boys’ areas which are securely separated. Each house is overseen by residential Houseparents and Boarding Assistants. A member of staff is available to the students 24 hours a day to support them in with both their academic and social growth.
A number of trips and visits are organised on some of the weekends for boarders and day students. The boarding houses are just a short walk from Summertown- a lovely part of Oxford with a theatre, swimming pool, leisure centre and cafes. The centre of Oxford is about 15 minutes by bus.
The boarding experience is an opportunity to live with others, to become independent and, being in Oxford, it provides access to superb leisure and study facilities such as theatres, museums, galleries, libraries and parks.
