About Bromsgrove School

Bromsgrove School

Surgeon or singer, whatever your commission, calling or career, at Bromsgrove School they believe the most creative thing that you will do in your life is to raise your child. Therefore, the most important investment you will make in your life will be in their education. It has the potential to pay dividends long after they leave the school gates. Research, then invest wisely. Beware though, the investment is not simply financial. You will need to commit equal amounts of patience, trust, aspiration and love to get the best returns. If you are searching for a school that will honour that type of commitment, welcome to Bromsgrove School.

Bromsgrove is an ancient institution but a modern educational force. And during its prestigious history, we have learned a thing or two about young people. Certainly, we’ve kept pace with change: our exceptional academic record would not have remained unbroken if we hadn’t. But there are a few maxims that are as true today as they were five hundred years ago. We know that it is possible to balance academic rigour with nurture and stimulation. That all young people rise to the expectations you hold of them. That morality matters and creativity counts. That the love of learning can be transformative. We know because we put these principles into practice every day.

Boarding at Bromsgrove School

Although set in breath-taking facilities, the real heart of Bromsgrove’s success is its people. Their 1,600 pupils, boys and girls, day and boarding, national and international, aged 3-18, are what give Bromsgrove School its vibrancy. And of course, a staff of some of the nation’s finest educators, coaches and caregivers. Passionate professionals, as invested in your child as you are.

Bromsgrove School operates a House system as opposed to a Form system which means that every pupil, whether boarding or day belongs to a House, a smaller unit within the larger School. Each House has a team of tutors led by a Houseparent and supported by housemothers who have no academic role and are there purely for the care of the young people in the House. There is great loyalty to the Houses and much competition between them. Pupils know every other pupil in their House regardless of age. Leadership opportunities abound and important lessons about community are learned.

Co-Curricular Programmes

Beyond CCF (Combined Cadet Force), Duke of Edinburgh Awards and Community Service, Clubs and Societies play a big part at Bromsgrove. Take, for example the thriving debating society. Pupil teams won the national competition and represented the country in the international final of the European Youth Parliament in Kiev. On a local level, it regularly takes part in district competitions such as the Three Counties Debate in Malvern as well as the English-Speaking Union Competition and University Debates at Oxford and Cambridge.

Or consider the Chapel Choir and Choral Society which regularly perform at venues such as St George’s Chapel, Windsor, York and Gloucester Cathedrals and Pershore and Bath Abbeys. Or Drama Club, where pupils get the chance to work towards The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) certificate at Bronze, Silver or Gold level.

And on the list goes, demonstrating that at Bromsgrove education is as much about what happens outside a classroom as within.
